So you want to be a director? But you’re totally not sure. You’re also interested in writing. And come to think of it, maybe even editing. Sure, you can list all the things that we are good and interested in doing, but what is it that you truly want to do?
This is a problem with many people that want to do multiple things and can’t seem to decide on what to focus on. Because of that, many of us may try to sell ourselves as a jack of all trades. It may sound like a good thing at first but in the long run, you can’t really sell yourself as the best of whatever skill you are trying to present yourself with. Rather, you may be presenting yourself as the one-stop-shop, but nothing that you are really the best at.
If people are looking for a certain thing and searching for quality, they may skip right over you and look onto someone else. I think that we all need to focus on what we are truly great at and we want to do. And everything else that we’re “so-so” with? Leave it aside. If we focus on what we truly want to do and accomplish, not only would we become better at it, but also become a lot more confident on selling that skill.
So you really want to direct videos? Go for it.
